However, Considering the rather high cost to get one, even from If you want something that has a much nicer polish, in my opinion nicer fittings and all around much more traditional specifications, I have to second the Dynasty Forge recommendation, The Musha line which is also Through Hardened is all around a better choice if you ask me. Cold Steel is an American company with an emphasis on strong and sharp swords. I will point out however that it is quite nice to look at from a utilitarian point of view, not too pretty, not too workhorse. I have a forge folded Bushi O'katana, with a 31.5 nagasa and it is as long as I feel is reasonable, for a usable katana's blade. The CS O'kat is not nearly as well-balanced or user-friendly (in terms of drawing/cutting) as the DF O'kat. but it really isn't a Katana per se, it's like a katana shaped sword. Both the RDP and the CS katana are through hardened and will take quite a bit of abuse, but the RDP will be a better sword overall when it comes to handling. I do own both the Dynasty Forge O'katana and the Cold Steel O'katana. Its fittings were beautiful and very distinctive. The Tachi was a lighter, smaller elegant sword, more deeply curved and made for use with one hand. Everything is tight and stout and well put together, but it is by no means traditional, the blade profile, size of fittings, polish, steel and balance are all very much fitting of the Gung-Ho Cold Steel attitude.īut I assure you once it's unique handling characteristics have been gotten used to, it would cut very well and stand up to considerable abuse. The Tachi was the sword of the Samurai before its necessary evolution into the katana after the first Mongol invasion of Japan. Like all things though these swords definitely have a market, I have dry handled several times the dragonfly and Imperial katana, and for me personally (6'3" 250lbs) It has a LOT of blade presence but not so much to be useless. Scabbard material: Black Lacquered Wood Scabbard. Steel material: High Carbon steel 1060, mono-spring tempered. Which is not an encouragement to go and chop down threes. To be Brutally Honest, like my Opinion of much of Cold Steel's line up, Outrageously overpriced, ridiculously heavy. We re-created the look of a traditional cord wrapped handle, Fuchi and Kashira but used modern materials that will not shrink, warp, tarnish or rot and require. CS Warrior is a durable blade that will stand up to anything you put it through.
